Porcupine Alaska Gold Mine Tours
In 1905, Porcupine was a thriving town of 2000 people, retail stores and a post office. Little evidence remains of the town, but the lure of gold is still strong. There is still gold, and there are miners who moil for it.
Porcupine Gold Mine Tours offers an exclusive tour to the largest producing placer mine on Porcupine Creek today.
Our tour begins in downtown Haines and follows the Dalton Trail, the turn-of-the-century gold-seekers' route to the Klondike Gold Fields. We will travel 26 miles on the Haines Highway through the 48,000 acre Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve, and then cross the Klehini River. From there on a gravel road we will burrow further into the valleys that produced over 3 tons of gold. You will learn the history of the area, meet real prospectors and pan for gold in a creek. Old Jack Dalton would have been appalled by our policy -- the gold you find is yours to keep!
Porcupine and its Gold await you. Join us on our next tour.
